Cytology is the examination of cells from the body under a microscope. Liquid-based cytology increases the sensitivity of the detection of precancerous cervical lesions. Our pathologist team looks at cells collected from a urine specimen in a urine cytology exam to see how they look and function. Our team will also analyze the cells under a microscope to see if there are any abnormalities. They look at the cells in a culture dish to see if bacteria or other organisms are growing.
Cytology test commonly checks for infection, inflammatory disease of the urinary tract, cancer, or precancerous conditions.
Urine cytology is better at finding more significant and more aggressive cancers than small, slow-growing cancers.
